ALT 1 - Diversity Within Organizations

Students will identify and understand the nature of diversity within organizations.

AST 1.1 - Dealing with Diversity  :  Understand how leaders can increase diversity within an organization and deal with increasing diversity.

AST 1.2 - Subordinate/Minority Groups  :  Discuss what constitutes a subordinate/minority group and the concept of glass ceilings.

ALT 2 - Decisions and Conflicts

Students will understand the process for making sound decisions and resolving conflicts.

AST 2.1 - Techniques  :  Describe several decision-making techniques.

AST 2.2 - Conflicts and Resolutions  :  Understand causes of conflict and some strategies for resolution.

ALT 3 - Concepts of Leadership

Students will understand the concepts of leadership and the supervisory role.

AST 3.1 - Leader/Supervisor's Job  :  Understand the nature and scope of a leader/supervisor’s job.

AST 3.2 - Identify Concepts  :  Identify the concepts of effective leadership.

Students will understand how to cope with organizational dynamics.

AST 4.1 - Methods of Communication  :  Understand the methods of effective communication.

AST 4.2 - Understanding Supervision  :  Understand the supervision of groups and work teams.

ALT 5 - Understanding an Organization

Students will understand the importance of effective planning, decision-making, and control functions in an organization.

AST 5.1 - Time Management  :  Define time management.

AST 5.2 - Identify Guidelines  :  Identify effective time management guidelines.

AST 5.3 - Effective Management Tools  :  Identify and compare effective meeting management tools.

ALT 6 - Stimulate Performance

Students will understand how to stimulate individual and group performance in an organization.

AST 6.1 - Purpose of Appraisals  :  Describe the purposes of performance appraisals.

AST 6.2 - Differentiate Performance Appraisals  :  Differentiate formal and informal performance appraisals.

ALT 7 - Apply and Demonstrate Skills

Apply and demonstrate key professional metacognitive skills to facilitate business success and to progress in business, marketing, sales, and service careers.

AST 7.1 - Collaboration  :  Students work effectively with others; respect diversity; are empathetic, cooperative, and willing to compromise; assume shared responsibility for group tasks; and communicate effectively in groups.

AST 7.2 - Communication  :  Students effectively communicate and listen through oral, written, visual, and nonverbal formats in both formal and information situations.

AST 7.3 - Leadership  :  Students inspire and influence others to achieve a common goal by capitalizing on strengths to coordinate tasks; motivating and guiding others; taking initiative and responsibility for outcomes; being decisive, assertive, and authoritative; developing others' skills; and negotiating conflict.

AST 7.4 - Self-Efficacy  :  Students are confident in their ability to obtain academic success; persist to overcome challenges; and are not defeated by failure.

AST 7.5 - Integrity  :  Students work in a systematic and organized fashion to develop precise and accurate products that comply with procedures and directions; have high standards; and maintain personal and academic integrity.

AST 7.6 - Adaptability  :  Students respond and adapt well to change; are comfortable with ambiguity; adjust priorities and thinking in response to change; manage pressure and setbacks; and maintain an optimistic outlook.
